Ready Player One book is a 2011 science fiction novel by Ernest Cline in his debut. The story, set in a dystopian 2044, follows protagonist Wade Watts on his search for an Easter egg in a virtual reality game, the discovery of which will lead him to inherit a fortune in a world by an energy crisis. When young Wade Watts joins the contest, he finds himself becoming an unlikely hero in a reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical world of mystery, discovery and danger.
What they Say about the book
Ready Player One book was a New York Times bestseller. It was praised by such publications as Entertainment Weekly, The Boston Globe, The A.V. Club, CNN.com, io9, and Boing Boing, to name a few. USA Today wrote that the novel “undoubtedly qualifies Cline as the hottest geek on the planet right now. NPR said that the book was “ridiculously fun and large-hearted”. Cline “takes a far-out premise and engages the reader instantly” with a “deeply felt narrative [that] makes it almost impossible to stop turning the pages. Janet Maslin of The New York Times wrote that “The book gets off to a witty start” but noted that it lacks at least one dimension, stating that gaming had overwhelmed everything else about this book. Rebecca Serle of The Huffington Post described the book as “the grown-up’s Harry Potter” and that it “has it all – nostalgia, trivia, adventure, romance, heart and, dare I say it, some very fascinating social commentary. ”
The book has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Cline said that his book had inspired designers at companies such as Oculus VR which recommended the book for their new employees. Oculus has also invited Cline several times to sign books and demo hardware.

The Ready Player One movie is still a long way off, but it was in development for years, even before Ernest Cline’s novel hit bookstores in 2011, they already had a movie deal in place. Building up towards productions, Steven Spielberg and company have been putting the pieces for the Ready Player One cast in place.
Any time Steven Spielberg directs a movie it’s a big deal and I don’t know how much the movie will be close to the book, of course he is a great director but difference between a movie and a book is something known by all. The book describes the story in great detail. I recommend everyone to read the original book once to experience the best of it because once the movie is made very few people will look back to the book and true essence of it will be lost.
